" EDPM Ltd — Architects and Civil/ Structural Engineers have engaged with MGM construction on various projects over recent years. A number of these projects included renovation works to properties located in Architectural Conservation Areas in Kilkenny and Carlow. One particular project entailed a substantial historic warehouse renewal (change of use from redundant bonded warehousing to residential) in Centaur Street, Carlow.
The design process included the appraisal of the works by a Grade 1 Conservation Architect — Mr Michael O'Boyle. MGM construction applied the recommendations of the Conservation Architect with due diligence and care. The director, Martin Murphy, engaged with the Traditional Lime Company, Tullow, Co Carlow for procurement of appropriate material but also to attend workshops dealing with the specialities of traditional lime based products with the proprietor Mr Edward Byrne. Other projects on the edge of the core of Kilkenny City involved the renovation of terraced townhouses located within the John Street Conservation Area. MGM Construction applied sensitivity of conservation works, including, the principle of reversibility, the use of natural hydrated lime, appropriate fenestration and roof works (The repair and upgrading of trussed roofs with natural reclaimed slate finish). Mr Murphy engaged pro-actively with ourselves as designers and project managers to achieve best conservation practice as specified within these projects and received our instructions enthusiastically.
